T. wrote: Dear Sirs

I am interested in driving lessons for a 125cc scooter. I am exchanging my US license for a Swiss license. Since I am over 25 years old and if I understand the rules correctly, I need to take an 8 hour traffic theory course to extend my driving privledges to include a 125cc scooter?
I would also need to have an English speaking instructor.

Kind regards,

T. O'N.

Remark

The age of 25 years has nothing to do with the category A1. Somebody under 18 can ride in Switzerland only scooters or motorcycles up to 50cc, over 18 the category A1 includes all 125cc scooters or machines up to 11kW or 15 hp

My answer to T.'s question

Hi T.
I am Urs and I am a motorcycle-teacher since 1982, since 1987 I do only motorcycles and scooters and have my own school with many machines my student-drivers can learn on it. To your question: To extend your car driver licence to A1, you need a basic course in driving motorcycles or scooters. All people taking part in this course must already know how to ride the motorcycle, the course is for better driving. I teach many English speaking student drivers during the year. It is no problem for me.
I will put my «infos» into your mailbox on my way back home. Since Dec 2007 I am living in Thalwil (Albisstr. 11)
Have a nice evening!
Urs

2nd E-Mail

Dear Urs:

Thank you for your quick reply. If I take a scooter driving course with you will that satisfy my A1 (125cc Scooter) license requirements?
I look forward to receiving your information in the mail. My address is Sestrasse X, Thalwil (almost in Oberrieden)

Kind regards, T.

2nd answer to T.'s question

Hi T.
I have put all information in your mailbox last night. When you do the courses with me, then you are doing more than just the minimum. I am teaching motorcycles before the new rules and I was always selling safety to my clients. You make just one mistake in the traffic and it can be terrible for you whole life.
When you start with me, you don’t need from the first moment a diver licence (learners permission): You can try with me in a parking lot on a scooter I rent with my neighbour, he is a Kymco dealer. When you have spent a double lesson in the parking lot, I can tell you more what YOU need until you get the permission (mandatory part). Normally it takes 2 double lesson before the basic course in skills.
The course (first part of the mandatory 8 hours) last with me 2 mornings with 5 lessons in the group. After that I teach all in individual lessons (second part of the mandatory 8 hours) until they are safe riders and I can give the signature for your A1 license. It depends how good the drivers are, it’s something between 2 to 4 double lessons. After that you are able to drive safe, knowing the rules for Switzerland and for two wheel drivers and you are also able to drive two up. This will be costs something between 1000 Frs in best case, up to 1500 Frs in worst case.

If your live is worth that money, your are my client – if not, you must look for somebody else.

Hope you got my information material and somebody can explain you what’s written in it.
Have a good evening. I hope to hear from you again…
